Okun Indigenes Appeal To Tinubu For Inclusion In Cabinet – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

LOKOJA – The Okun People in the West Senatorial District of Kogi State have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider them for appointment into his cabinet.

The group noted that the appeal became necessary in view of the massive support they gave to the president during the last presidential election.

The Okun Development Gladiators, a Socio, Cultural and Political Group made the call in a press statement made available to the media shortly after their meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
The group decried the way Okun people were being treated in the state, saying that despite being the second largest and populated zone, it has consistently suffered marginalisation and neglect in the distribution of Political appointment and economic development .

The statement reads in part, “It is important to note that the Okun people and indeed the West Senatorial District of the state have not produced a Governor since the creation of Kogi in 1991.

The statement added that the Okun people have consistently played significant role in the development of the state even as they are committed to payment of legitimate taxes and other civil obligation, have not been represented in the Federal Executive Council for the past fifteen years.

“We, the Okun people, have great hopes in your leadership and believe that your emergence will be a liberation to us. We voted massively for your election, because of our confidence in your all round qualities in leadership.

“Our hopes were raised when we learned that an Okun nominee was suggested to you, alongside other names, by Governor Yahaya Bello. However, we surprised when the final list was announced, and the Okun people were once again left out.

“As a resilient people who do not give up, we are here today to appeal to your good office for assistance. We recognize your fairness and therefore appeal for consideration of our plight , the same way you treated with dispatch, states like Katsina, Cross River, Bauchi, and others to renominate the Okun indigene to be included in your cabinet for equity and fairness

“We crave for your magnanimity to approve the appointment of an Okun indigene from the Kogi West district for your placement. It is our sincere hope that this appeal will receive your utmost attention and that the Okun people will finally receive the recognition and opportunities they rightfully deserve.” The statement solicited.
